About Herbert L. Williams

Herb has been a practicing real estate attorney in Texas for more than fifty years. Herb was one of the founding partners of the law firm of Williams, Birnberg & Andersen, LLP in 1973. The firm engaged in general legal practice but concentrated on real estate-related matters, financial institutions, commercial practice, and business litigation. Herb is now an “Of Counsel” to Greco Murphy Law LLP.

Herb has been very successful in the real estate and banking industries in Texas throughout his career. In that regard, Herb has held many positions, including the following:

• Past President and Chair of the Board of Texas American Title Company.
• Past Chief Executive Officer of American Title Company of Austin.
• Past Chair of the Board of American Title Company of Houston, and its subsidiaries, Southland Title of Fort Bend, Inc. and Southland Title Co., Inc.
• Past Chair of the Board of Title Resources Guaranty Company, a highly rated regional title insurance underwriter.
• Past Chair of the Board and Director of Preferred Bank, fsb.
• Past member of the Board of Directors of Title Data Inc., one of the largest joint title plant maintenance operations in the nation. Herb also served on the Executive Committee of Title Data.
• As an advocate of community involvement, Herb was formerly on the Board of Directors of the YMCA of Houston.
• Past President of the Independent Metropolitan Agents of Texas, a group of independent metropolitan title insurance agents in Texas.

Herb was also one of the original founders of Preferred Bank of Houston in 1985. He also served as Chair of the Board and was the majority stockholder of the Bank. The Bank provided real estate lending services to the Houston community. As Past Chair of the Board, Herb is versed in a wide range of state and federal regulations that impact banking and real estate lending activities.

Herb sold his interests in the above-referenced title companies and title insurance underwriter to the predecessor in interest of the company now known as Anywhere Real Estate. Herb sold his interest in Preferred Bank to Texas First Bank. Herb now devotes the majority of his professional time to serving on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of Texas First Bank.

Herb is married to his lovely wife Cynda, and has two wonderful adult children and two awesome grandchildren. Herb loves vacationing and spending time with his family. Herb is also an active scuba diver and enjoys exploring the world’s coral reefs.
